Abstract

ABSTRACT

Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder that occurs because the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or the body cannot use insulin effectively. High glucose levels can block blood flow to the tips of the hands and feet so that the blood supply and cells that function to fight infection in these areas are reduced. This condition causes the wound to become more difficult to heal and susceptible to infection, and the risk of becoming gangrene. Gangrene is tissue death caused by blockage of blood vessels (ischemicnecrosis). The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between blood glucose levels and the occurrence of gangrene in patients with type II diabetes mellitus and this study used a quantitative design using a cross sectional approach. The sampling technique was total sampling, which amounted to 30 respondents. The results obtained on the variable blood glucose levels p = 0.00 (<0.05), meaning that there is a significant relationship between the relationship between blood glucose levels and the occurrence of gangrene. It is suggested to respondents to pay more attention to DM wounds by maintaining a healthy diet such as (low sugar, consuming lots of fruit and vegetables) so that blood sugar does not get higher so that DM wounds heal quickly and don't become gangrene.
