Identification Of The Hydroquinone Content In Facial Whitening Creams At The Andi Tadda Market Palopo City

Abstract

Hydroquinone content in cosmetics can damage skin health if used without a doctor’s supervision.in Indonesia, the use of hydroquinone as a bleaching agent has been banned. This is based on regulations issued by BPOM.The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is a hydroquinone content in facial whitening creams in the Andi Tadda market.

The type of  research used  is descriptive observasional. With the aim of knowing the hydroquinone content in facial whitening cream using qualitative analysis method. The sample is dripped with FeCl₃ 1% solution, if there is a change in color of the sample become green to black, the facewhitening cream is positive for hydroquinone. Samples of facial whitening cream were taken at the Andi Tadda market which is a tradisional market that sels people’s need , one of which is cosmetics.

Of the 12 face whitening creams, 25% were positive for hydroquinone. 3 samples change color to black, 2 samples change color to yellow, 1 samples change color to orange  and 6 samples no color change.
