Formulations of essential oils the leaves of green (pipper betle L) in the form of gels hand sanitizer

Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the spread of the virus can be prevented by implementing a clean lifestyle, one of the most effective ways to break the chain of distribution is washing hands frequently with soap or hand sanitizer. Hand sanitizer is a hand sanitizer preparation that contains an antiseptic that can kill bacteria and viruses. One of the plants that has antibacterial activity is betel leaf (pipper betle L) which contains phenol and phenylpropane which have the potential as antibacterial. The purpose of this study was to make an antiseptic hand wash gel and to determine the results of physical tests, organoleptic tests, pH tests, homogeneity tests and stability tests.

Method This research was conducted experimentally, the sample was extracted by distillation or distillation using aquadest solvent. Furthermore, the essential oil from betel leaf is made into a hand sanitizer formula with different concentrations, namely 2%, 4%, 6%.

The results of the research on antiseptic gel formulations from betel leaf extract showed that from the organoleptic test there was no change in color, odor and shape. The homogeneity test showed that all formulas were homogeneous and the pH test showed that there was no change in pH during storage
