Abstract

The sufficient knowledge about drug use is crucial for self-medication. The improper use of any drug can be dangerous for the user, in worst case, it can lead to mortality. Thus, the socialization about proper drug use is important to improve the knowledge of the community.

 The aim of the study was to investigate the knowledge level of the community about drug use before and after given "DAGUSIBU" (Get, Use, Save and Dispose). This study uses a dor to dor extension method with one group preetest-postest design. The population in this study was the people who had diffuculty getting treatment at the padang lambe tourism puskesmas based on the 10 most diseases totaling 30 people. Research sample was determined by Total sampling technique. Data were collected by using questionnaire, and then analyzed using Paired sample t-Test.

 The results showed that the knowledge level of the respondents before the socialization was included in less category (38%). On the other hand, the score was improved to 70% or included in enough category. The result of statistical analysis demonstrated the t statistics of 9,798 with p-value 0,000 (< ? 0,05). Therefore, it can be concluded that there was a significant difference between the knowledge of respondents before and after given the socialization. In other words, the socialization of DAGUSIBU was proved to be the effective method for improving the drug use knowledge of sumarambu village, Telluwanua sub-distric,  Palopo city.
