Surgery is a treatment that is carried out by making an incision to open and view the part of the body that is experiencing problems and ends with stitching the wound. Surgery will definitely cause discomfort and trauma for the patient, one of the complaints that patients complain about is pain. This study aims to determine the difference between distraction and relaxation techniques to reduce pain intensity in post-operative patients at Sawerigading Palopo Regional Hospital. The type of research method used is Quasy Experiment with a two group pre-test and posttest design approach consisting of 2 groups, where each group is given a different intervention. The sample in this study was post-operative patients with a total of 39 respondents using a purposive sampling method. Data collection techniques used questionnaires and analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis. From the research results, data was obtained that there was a difference in providing the distraction technique of listening to music to reduce pain intensity in post-operative patients with a value of p = 0.000 < 0.05. Then there was a difference in providing deep breathing relaxation techniques to reduce pain intensity in post-operative patients with a value of p = 0.000 < 0.05. It is hoped that with the results of this study, post-operative patients can improve distraction and relaxation techniques to reduce pain intensity.
