Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is breastfeeding only for infants aged 0-6 months without being given any additional food. Breastfeeding in Indonesia is still relatively low, data from the Ministry of Health shows that the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia in 2017 was 55.5%. IMD implementation is the first step in the success of babies to start learning to breastfeed first so that breast milk is still produced. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between IMD and the success of exclusive breastfeeding at the Wara Barat Health Center, Palopo City. This research is a quantitative analytic study with a Cross Sectional approach. the sample in this study were 35 respondents. The results of the study found that there was no relationship between IMD and the success of exclusive breastfeeding (p = 0.062) with a = 0.05, although there was no known relationship that IMD could affect breastfeeding. The results of this study are expected to be taken into consideration for every health agency to make written policies regarding the implementation of IMD and providing education about exclusive breastfeeding.
