Gel Formulation of Pure Coconut Oil or VCO (Virgin Coconut Oil) Used as A Waste of Face

Abstract

Virgin Coconut Oil has many benefits in the field of pharmacy and health. Virgin Coconut Oil also has a very high content of antioxidants and moisturizers, which function to prevent premature aging and maintain the vitality of the body. The purpose of this study is to formulate Virgin Coconut Oil in gel preparations. The type of research used in this study is an experimental study called pre-experimental design in the form of a one-shoot case study with the aim of formulating pure coconut oil or VCO (Virgin Coconut Oil) in gel preparations used as facial moisturizers. This research was conducted at the STIKes Bhakti Pertiwi Laboratory in Luwu Raya Palopo. Evaluation of dosage includes organoleptic tests (shape, odor and color), homogenits test, spread test, and pH test. The results showed that pure coconut oil or VCO (Virgin Coconut Oil) gel preparations at a concentration of 3%, 6% and 9% had thick, odorless and milky white form or consistency, no granules in the gel preparation , then the VCO (Virgin Coconut Oil) gel preparation can be said to be homogeneous, has a spread of 5-6.2 cm, the pH test results show the pH of the preparation is between 3-4 which is an acidic pH. From the evaluation of gel preparations which have the best stability is a concentration of 3%.
